National data base analysis

We will look at the electronic health records of about 15,000 people with a learning disability who have palliative care needs, or who have died.

We will compare this with the record of people without a learning disability, so we can find out if there are differences with regards to:

  • Whether GPs register that people have palliative care needs, and how long people live after the GP has noted their palliative care need

  • Whether people are referred to specialist palliative care services

  • How often people have contact with primary care services (e.g. their GP) in the last year of life, and how often they are in hospital

This part of the study will be completed in August 2025.
