One of many reasons I love working in the Learning Disability Research Team at Kingston University is because we are – as Irene Tuffrey-Wijne calls us – “a think-outside-the-box team”. And while I have been part of many brilliant moments of creativity in the nine months I have been working here, I’m not sure anything could have prepared me for my day in the office on 17 July, when we filmed a video for our new Print and Deliver Project. Let me tell you all about it!

Print and Deliver Project

That’s right – a new project has started! Funded by the Marie Curie UK Research Impact Fund, Print and Deliver will be offering free printed end of life care planning resources, which can be ordered (very soon!) from the Marie Curie website. These resources are from the Victoria & Stuart Project toolkit, and include: When I'm ill cards; My funeral cards; Let's Talk About Funerals pictures, and new bitesize guides to help you use them.

The Victoria & Stuart Project ended in August 2024, before I joined the Kingston University team. Although I hadn’t worked on the project, I had seen and heard so much about it. Something that immediately caught my attention was that the project was named after two people: Victoria Willson (1970–2013) and Stuart Hasler (1978–2020), who had both inspired the research. That detail told me so much about the team I am now part of. Amidst the countless steps, complex layers, and competing deadlines involved in research, the focus of our work is always people with a learning disability.

When my colleague Andrea (who is leading Print and Deliver) asked me if I would like to join the project team, I said YES! Andrea told me that the first thing I needed to do was to make a promotional video about the Print and Deliver service. For that, I was definitely going to need the best cast and crew in town…

Filming Day

On 17 July, the cast (Leon, Jo, Amanda and Richard) and crew (Andrea, Irene and myself) came together for a filming day to shoot the Print and Deliver promotional video. At this stage I just want to publicly acknowledge Irene’s brilliant audition for the role of Daffodil. As it happened, we already had someone else on board who was perfect for that part…

The Print and Deliver service is launching soon – watch this space! In the meantime, here are some exclusive behind-the-scenes pictures captured from our filming day…

We’re just getting started with Print and Deliver – stay tuned for more updates!
